This print showcases an original watercolour capturing the Batavia’s fateful voyage along the Western Australian coast, abruptly ended by a concealed reef that tore the hull apart. The crashing wave against the ship reflects the unforeseen calamity encountered. What the crew mistook for moonlight was in fact turbulent water above the hidden reef. Fragments of this 17th-century maritime tragedy remain preserved at the Shipwreck Museum in Fremantle, where the surviving port side and recovered artefacts vividly recount its enduring legacy. Printed on Ilford Galerie Cotton Artist Textured 310 gsm 100% Cotton Rag Paper. Unframed, packaged with foam backing board in cellophane envelope for shipping. This image is available as an A5, A4 or A3 sized print.
