This A6 card depicts a poignant moment from the tragic history of the Batavia, a 17th-century Dutch East Indies vessel that was wrecked off the coast of Western Australia in 1629. On a June evening, the crew mistook the shimmering waves for moonlight, only to realise they were the breakers of a hidden reef.
